Some of the lads can talk dialectical materialism like Engels, Some of the comrades know Das Kapital chapter and verse, They are to be commended for their prodigious memory, but criticized if there exists any practical distance from the working-class. Comrade, when is the last time you visited a prison or sat by a sickbed, paid for coffees or lunches for the strikers?
Every tried and true revolutionary would die for his/her friends. Every true social revolutionary agrees with Corinthians 13:
"If I speak in the tongues of men and angels,
but have not love,
I have become sounding brass or a tinkling symbol.
And if I have prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing.
And if I dole out all my goods, and
if I deliver my body that I may boast
but have not love, nothing I am profited."
Strategy and tactics are indispensable in bringing a Canadian working-class to socialist revolution. Knowledge of the tactics of imperialism is necessary. But a human being whose hope is formed by love
is the bottom-line, the real deal that attracts others to the Cause and strengthens the party and builds the movement.
The specifically human dimension of Communism is often overlooked, but without a focus on subjective formation as a revolutionary the movement is nothing. The betrayal of one's conscience is the greatest sin and weakness in any person's journey. The communist of the heart - like any spiritual person, can not sell out conscience to the institutional ambitions of his/her lower nature.
As Che put it, in his most famous quote: "At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that a true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love.""There is no other definition of communism valid for us than that of the abolition of the exploitation of man by man." And as Ho Chi Minh said : “Love other human beings as you would love yourself.”
