Despite the strong rhetoric coming from the Obama administration over the signing of an anti-Homosexual law by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, there is no way President Obama will allow the issue to compromise long-standing American military interests in the region and there’s little chance the LGBT political establishment will ask him to.
If the American electorate truly knew the extent of US. military involvement in 49 African nations they would understand why.
Though currently being portrayed as irrational, the Ugandans have calculated that they are part of an official U.S. strategy in Africa shaped more by impenetrable Cold War-era interests than by commercial interests, as is the case with China’s penetration of the continent. America is not going to risk losing a strategic military ally especially with Russia willing to dole out $450 million for Olympic-class swimming pools in Uganda and certainly not with Western corporations like Tullow Oil plc eyeing massive oil discoveries in the Lake Albert region.
