Iran's Mousavi calls new protest,Thousands of Iranians have taken to the streets to protest against the election result [EPA] (excerpt)

Mir Hossein Mousav, Iran's main opposition leader, has urged his supporters to gather outside parliament in Tehran in defiance of government orders for protesters to stay off the streets.

The call for the rally in the Iranian capital's main square at 1600 local time on Wednesday came after Iranian authorities reportedly deployed more security to break-up any gatherings and quell further protests.

Mousavi's move will be a key test of whether the current crackdown on demonstrations by the government will keep protesters at home.

Officials have said they will set up special courts to deal with any detained protesters and "teach them a lesson".

Days of demonstrations against the June 12 re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the country's president appeared to die down on Tuesday, although accurate reports of events on the ground in Iran are complicated by the government's clampdown on foreign media
