AS OBAMA WISHED the Pakistani government/military has begun waging war on the Taliban in heavily populated areas. But what will be the outcome of the Obama Af-Pak doctine?
Is it conceivable that the Pakistani people will be ready to suffer heavy civilian casualties and mass internal displacement because Uncle Sam wants it this way? What is the probability that the Pakistani masses become more hardened in their hatred of the Pakistan government and its US master? The Obama policy will build continued broad sympathy for the Pashtun struggle across the border in Afghanistan. As long as the US is intent on military victory in Afghanistan the Pakistan front is a necessary component of America's war planning. Both on internationalist principle and basic pragmatism, the people in the imperialist nations should now be joining Pakistani protesters by mobilizing to oppose this war on the grounds that it's not only wicked - but just making matters much worse.
