Honduran Workers Begin General Strike until Zelaya’s Return
HAVANA, Cuba, July 23 (acn) Workers of the Honduran public sector began on Thursday a general strike that will continue until the return of constitutional president Manuel Zelaya, which is expected for this coming weekend.

The decision to stop all productive activities in the Central American nation was made last Monday by the three workers’ confederations of Honduras: the General Workers Trade Union (CGT), the Confederation of Workers of Honduras (CTH) and the Unitarian Confederation of Workers of Honduras (CUTH).

The president of the popular resistance organization ‘Via Campesina’, Rafel Alegria, told the Bolivarian News Agency (ABN) that this general strike would have “a severe impact on the country’s economy” and that people would support the workers’ strike with more demonstrations and the blocking of roads on Thursday and Friday.

He added that they are also obstructing the entry into Honduras of trucks carrying goods for the Central American nation
