Zelaya and Micheletti urged by The United States to do a Skit as a Pantomime Horse! By Andrew Taylor

The Micheletti putschist regime in Honduras is under increasing pressure from Washington to allow Zelaya back into the presidential palace as a pantomime horse.

A pantomime horse is a theatrical representation of a horse by two actors in a single costume who cooperate and synchronize their movements. Washington seems to ardently desire that the rightfully elected president, Mr. Zelaya, play the front end, including the horse's head and its front legs, and mouthpiece. The other actor, Roberto Micheletti is to provide the actual rear end traction of the US created monstrosity, and circumscribe all the actions of Mr. Zelaya in a coercive and humiliating manner. Micheletti could see little had not The US State Department cut eyeholes in the bottom part of the horse's torso to enable him to see where he is putting his feet as he manipulates President Zelaya’s every movement.

Pantomime horses and pantomime cows feature in Christmas pantomimes, mainly in the United Kingdom but are apparently gaining popularity in the USA and its dependents under President Obama’s “Good Neighbour” policy.. A skilled pair of performers can dance a pretty jig as a pantomime horse, and fool children into believing they are watching a living, normal organism.

Pantomime horses feature prominently in an episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus : the "Merchant Banker" sketch, where two pantomime horses are forced to fight to the death for their job.

In The US State Department version of this skit, the stage directions are quite different, and the voice of the horse is reduced to a hoarse whisper while the fascist actor in the rear enforces cooperation.
