A poem in commemoration of Salvador Allende on the Anniversary of his martyrdom, 09/ 11/ 2009, by Andrew Taylor

Mr President, you deserve this honored tile
for you presided as a 'first among equals'
a presiding comrade brother
among all the americans;

You were the fair flower of the people,
you were a stalwart of the struggle,
they could kill you Presidente
but never defeat you -
for you grew out of the blood and soil of our Americas
watered by those centuries
millenia
of the people's sweat and tears

Salvador, martyr of our era, first-born
of so many modern salvadores,
your noble death intercedes for Honduras,
your life is a beacon to the peoples:
we take up your deathless cause!
