Muntadar al-Zaidi

Still defiant despite beatings, whippings and electric shocks after his arrest, Iraqi journalist Muntader al-Zaidi was freed [1] today to a hero's welcome after nine months in jail for throwing his shoes at "the criminal murderer" Bush. He said he had "vowed to the victims" of the U.S. invasion that he would act for them.

"If (people) knew how many destroyed houses I walked over with those shoes that I threw, and how many times those shoes mixed with the blood of the innocent, and how many times those shoes went into homes where the honor of those who lived there was disgraced, then it was the proper response."
