The overwhelming majority of the ruling class establishment is set on a showdown with Russia. The constant stream of anti-Russia propaganda focused on Trump is insurance to make sure he plays ball, whereas some in Trump's circle might prefer to shift U.S. imperialism's focus toward Iran and China while trying to break Russia away from its allies.
None of this has anything to do with fighting Trump's abhorrent white supremacy, union-busting, sexism, anti-LGBT bigotry, Islamophobia and xenophobia. On the contrary, as a recent Workers World article pointed out, the focus on Russia is a distraction from this fight, and a dangerous one.
Any worker, youth or progressive person depending on the Democratic Party for an orientation will be unable to make heads or tails of this situation.
On #J20, it will be incumbent on revolutionaries to bring clarity to this issue. Otherwise the anti-inauguration protests are in danger of becoming pro-war, pro-imperialist rallies. Needless to say, a major confrontation with Russia, though dangerous for the people of the U.S. and whole world, would suit not only the profits of the military-industrial complex and Wall Street, but the desire of the ruling class to derail Black Lives Matter and other fightback movements.
We need to come out strongly with slogans like:
"Capitalism caused Trump -- Not Russia! No to war & racism!"
We must keep our heads and uphold our principals, patiently explain and continue to organize. The masses will sooner or later be disabused of their Democratic illusions, and will remember who told the truth, who really fought against Trump and war.
